Katren Opens a New Logistics Centre in St. Petersburg's Shushary
Saint Petersburg, November 15, 2016 – Katren JSC, Russia's largest pharmaceutical distributor, has opened a new logistics centre in Saint Petersburg.
Katren’s automated multi-building warehouse in Shushary District was built in compliance with the GDP requirements. The complex occupies 3 hectares in the A Plus Development Company’s industrial park. The total warehouse area is 10.5 thousand square meters. This warehouse will service six Northwestern regions, thus allowing the Company to increase its delivery volume by one third by 2017. It will also enable the Company to expand its share on the medicine distribution market from 25 % to 33 %.
Narrow-passage technologies and equipment produced by Jungheinrich, Katren’s long-standing partner, have been used to equip the warehouse. The pharmaceutical warehouse is equipped with SSI Schafer’s automated assembly line for products. Storage zones with various temperature ranges are separated from each other and from the wholesale assembly area.
The new logistics centre handles orders from pharmacy institutions, including requests forwarded by the end-users through the service that helps them search for and order goods from the Apteka.ru pharmaceutical range. Delivery is available at pharmacies in Saint Petersburg and Karelia, as well as in the Leningrad, Pskov, Novgorod, and Kaliningrad regions.
Katren’s Regional Director, Dmitriy Monzikov, commented, "The warehouse in Shushary will greatly improve medicinal drug supplies to six Russian regions that fall under our administration. The Saint Petersburg’s warehouse area has been expanded three times, while the number of the different medicines has reached 16 thousand. This is especially pleasant news for Apteka.ru customers. An ordinary pharmacy’s product range is 4-8 thousand items, while Apteka.ru customers will have a two times wider range of choice! Delivery to a chosen partner-pharmacy takes place on the following day. The new warehouse in Saint Petersburg is one of the most advanced facilities in Russia that was built in compliance with GDP standard. All of Katren’s warehouses comply with the license requirements. However, as the GDP standard was adopted only last year, this standard’s requirements were taken into account from the very beginning of construction of the warehouse."
Vladimir Gerus, the Director of Katren JSC in Saint Petersburg, has highlighted, “After opening the warehouse, the complex’s storage capacity has increased significantly. This has a direct effect on the inventory depth and prevents the lack of products during the epidemiological season. This is a great advantage for Apteka.ru service users, as they are less likely to face the lack of products in the warehouse. In addition, our customers will surely notice a considerable expansion of the assortment range and a reduced time of delivery. We do not plan to stop there. The new facility's potential has not been exhausted yet. The area will allow us to increase the storage capacity several times if needed."
Katren JSC is the largest pharmaceutical distributor in Russia and is part of the OJSC Katren Group. The total area of its warehouse complexes comprises 121,500 square metres.
